Edit videos with Claude

What you need

• Split for Windows, installed from the download page. The installer includes split-cli.exe, the MCP server.
• Claude Desktop or Claude Code.

Claude Code

Run this once in a terminal (the path is Split's default install folder):

claude mcp add split -- "C:\Program Files\Split\split-cli.exe" mcp

Then start claude and ask, for example: “Import the clips in my Videos folder, cut the silences, add captions and export a 9:16 video.”

Claude Desktop

Open Claude Desktop's settings, go to Developer, and edit the config file. Add Split under mcpServers:

Restart Claude Desktop. Split's tools show up in the tools menu.

By default the MCP server edits a project in the background. To see Claude work inside the Split window instead, start Split with its control port and point the MCP server at it:

What to ask for

• “Open my project and make a 30-second version for Reels.”
• “Add captions to the whole video in bold yellow.”
• “Cut every pause longer than half a second.”
• “Export at 1080p, 30 fps, to my Videos folder.”
