Add captions to your videos automatically
Most people watch short videos with the sound off, so captions matter. Split writes them for you from the speech in your video, and you can restyle every word.
How to add captions
- Open your video in Split (Home, then New project or Add clips).
- Click Auto captions on Home, or type “add captions” to SplitIT.
- Check the captions on the timeline. Click any caption to fix a word.
- Ask for a style: “bold yellow captions, two lines, centred low”, or change the font and colour by hand.
- Export.
Caption tips that keep people watching
- Keep lines short: two lines at most on a phone screen.
- Put captions where faces aren't, usually the lower third.
- Use one strong colour for emphasis on key words.
- Check names and brand words: speech recognition can miss them.
Questions
How do I add subtitles to a video automatically?
Open the video in Split and click Auto captions (or ask SplitIT to add captions). Split transcribes the speech and places the captions on the timeline for you to check and style.
Can I edit the automatic captions?
Yes. Every caption is a normal text clip: you can change words, timing, font, colour and position.
